Day 1 Portland ME to Nashua NH

Day One
Quick notes. Very tired.
The first day one of the 2010 National EMS Memorial Bike Ride was long 100 miles. We started the day with perfect weather…..and ended with even better. The course was rolling hills along the Maine coastline then into New Hampshire. The roads inland were line with giant trees that helped block some of the 20+ mph winds. The first rest stop was a bit long at 35 miles and lunch at about mile 65. After lunch the ride took its first (and I hope only) victim…..three riders crashed sending one to the hospital with two broken bones and 12 stitches!
We started the ride with the readings of the names of Line of Duty Deaths and ended with the same. It gives me chills to hear the names being read 26 in all. The reading of the names keeps real what we are doing, its not just a bike ride, its about honoring those who are gone – we will not forget.
